Install BleachBit 4.6.0 on Linux Ubuntu

BleachBit cleans files to free disk space and to maintain privacy.

BleachBit 4.6.0 is the first major stable update to be released since BleachBit 4.4.2 in November 2021. It includes a number of new features, improvements, and bug fixes, such as:
  • Clean recently-closed tabs on Firefox
  • Clean autofill data in Chromium-based browsers
  • Improved support for FileZilla
  • Add title to dialogs
  • Fix AttributeError and “OperationalError: no such table” errors
  • Improved --help section in CLI
  • Support for newer versions of The GIMP
An array of Linux-specific improvements also feature in BleachBit 4.6.0:
  • Clean Mozilla Firefox snap
  • Clean Microsoft Edge for Linux
  • Clean Mozilla Firefox, Thunderbird & Google Chrome Flatpaks
  • Clean recent documents list on KDE 5.x
  • Add shred context menu for KDE
  • Notify when running as root with Wayland
  • Correct icon shown in application launchers

Running from source

To run BleachBit without installation, unpack the tarball and then run these commands:

$ make -C po local # build translations
$ python3 bleachbit.py

Then, review the preferences.

Then, select some options, and click Preview. Review the files, toggle options accordingly, and click Delete.


For information regarding the command line interface, run:

$ python3 bleachbit.py --help

The version of BleachBit in the repositories of many Linux distributions is often stale, so to use the best and latest version, use the packages below.

Select the .deb or .rpm package for the most similar Linux distribution.

Try Install BleachBit 4.6.0 on Ubuntu 23.10 Mantic Minotour :

Open terminal and follow command in the bellow :
$ wget -c https://download.bleachbit.org/bleachbit_4.6.0-0_all_ubuntu2310.deb


After Download is completed, install the deb package :
$ sudo dpkg -i bleachbit_4.6.0-0_all_ubuntu2310.deb


 Install missing dependecies :
$ sudo apt install -f

done, run Bleachbit from ubuntu dashboard :
